List of Google Acquisitions

Web search engine company Google has acquired over 80 companies with its largest acquisition being an online advertising company DoubleClick for US$3.1 billion. Google keeps rethinking its acquisition strategy to dominate new markets. Google makes stand to challenge Facebook but still it will have to choose its battleground carefully. Google is icon that represents intersection of technology and media. Here is list of Google acquisitions.

  1. February 12, 2001 - Google acquires Usenet Discussion Service and Significant Assets from Deja.com (USA) that is used as Google Groups.
  2. September 20, 2001 - Google acquires Web Search Engine, Technology Assets of Outride Inc (USA) which is used as Google Personalized Search (iGoogle).
  3. February 2003 – Google acquires Weblog software Pyra Labs (USA) – used as Blogger.
  4. April 2003 - Google acquires CRM, Neotonic Software (USA) that is used as technology for email customer support (CRM) – Google Groups, Gmail.
  5. April 2003 - Google acquires online advertising business company Applied Semantics (USA) for $102,000,000 that is used as Google advertising technology as – Google Adsense, Google Adwords.
  6. September 30, 2003 - Google acquires web search engine Kaltix Corp (USA) which is integrated to give personalized and context sensitive search engine technology – iGoogle.
  7. October 2003- Google acquires online advertising business Sprinks(USA) that is integrated with Google Adsense, Google Adwords.
  8. October 2003- Google acquires blogging platform Genius Labs (USA) that is integrated with Blogger.
  9. May 10, 2004 - Google acquires Ignite Logic, website creation application company (USA) that is used for Web Templates for Law Firms and Small Businesses.
  10. June 23, 2004 - Google acquires 2.6% Stake in Baidu.com (Chinese Language Search Engine ) but in 2006-06-24 - Google Sells 2.6% Stake in Baidu.com

I have heard that DoubleClick is no longer exist due to their irregularities as a company. Google can acquired tons of companies but they must be passed on their qualifications.
