Google Gets Into Behavioral Targeting



Google launched on March 11, 2009 the beta version of Interest-based advertising. Interest based advertising is type of beta advertising that delivers ads to users based on their previous searches and page views. Behavioral targeting is potential revenue generator, and retaining user data will further refine searches.

Google stores your previous search visit, page views, site visits and co-relates these search topics to display ads based on your previous search. The questionable issue is user choice and privacy. The deputy general counsel for Google, Nicole Wong to assure that user choice and advertising privacy remains secure said that the company’s interest-based advertising is "a product that's not only consistent with industry groups' privacy principles, but also goes beyond their requirements."

Google Adsense is used to display ads based on content relevancy. Google with this new technology or product tries to be more user friendly, by displaying ads based on the content of the page you are viewing.

Important Features of Interest Based Advertising:

Interest based advertising is browser based, Google assigns a specific number to the user’s browser using a cookie so that Google remembers the page visited by user. This happens only when, a user visits a website that displays ad provided by Google Adsense on a website.

Ads preferences manager will help user to edit ads display category associated with the browser number. You can add category of your interest to see more favorable ads. Using Ads Preference Manager You Tube users can also change or add category of their interest to see interest based ads on You Tube.

Clearing cookies browser number is deleted. Using Opt-out button on Ads Preference Manager you can stop receiving interest based advertising. Google assures no personal information is displayed.
